A Stronghold on record
since 1250

This historic house — its oldest parts dating to the 13th century — is a former stronghold, on record since 1250 and remodelled in the 17th. You'll find all the charm of the place: herringbone parquet floors, part of its original moat, a private chapel and a dovecote.

"And the sweeping view over the Pyrenees will win you over completely."

The owners will be delighted to share their passion for this place and its story. There is so much to tell across eight hundred years.

1366 – 1450
The House of Sécastou

In 1450, Arnaud Guilhem de Sécastou sells la Broquère and Cariton to Raymond d'Arcizas.

1450 – REVOLUTION
The House of Arcizas

Three and a half centuries under the same name. Colonel d'Arcizas, deputy for the nobility at the Estates-General of 1789, gave the château its present face: two matching towers, a Louis XVI façade, a formal French garden. During the Revolution, the estate was sold off as national property.

REVOLUTION – 1883
The Barrau, then Lasmartres families

Through many transactions the estate passed to Joseph Barrau, who remained at Saint-André until his death in 1878, then to his Lasmartres heirs. On 13 July 1883, the court of Saint-Gaudens ordered its sale — the château by then described as in poor repair.

1883
Auguste, Count of Galard Terraube

Auguste de Galard Terraube buys la Broquère back. Husband of Mélanie d'Encausse de Labatut, heiress to the neighbouring château of Labatut, he brought the two estates together under one family. The Galard motto: In via nulla invia — on the road, nothing is impassable.

1954
Jean de Galard Terraube and Laure d'Encausse de Labatut

The revival: tower roofs in hand-nailed slate, French-beamed ceilings brought from the château of Saint-Lary, terraces and new openings — more than five hundred days of work as a family.

2005
Béatrix de Galard Terraube

The line continues in the same family. More than 770 years after the sale of 1250, Béatrix carries on the work of restoration — and opens the house to new guests.

Château interiors
I
The Interiors

250 m² over two floors. A grand drawing room with fireplace, an open kitchen-diner facing the garden, a study in the tower, a games room. Exposed beams, terracotta tiles, antique furniture — the feel of a house lived in for centuries.

Saltwater pool and flowering garden
II
Garden & Pool

A wooded garden of more than 2,000 m², with quite distinct areas to it. A 12 × 4 m saltwater pool with a stone pool house. A dining spot under the century-old lime tree. The house stays cool in summer, thanks to its thick walls.

Chapel and heritage
III
The Heritage

A stone private chapel, a dovecote, a moat — each a witness to eight centuries of history. The two medieval towers, the herringbone floors and the moat make a setting no hotel could ever reproduce.

Fishing — the Nère runs past the gardenYou can fish here all year round: the whole river is part of the Aurignac angling association's waters, and the château's stretch is second-category — no closed season.
